No Fear

The winter retreat in Big Bear was a lot of fun. I realized a lot about myself.
One common thread of the weekend was fear. I don’t know what kept me from snowboarding my whole life. I remember never being able to afford it (or snow gear) and most of my friends already knew how and I was the only beginner of the group. Anyway, I think some of it was fear that I had heard scary things like, “you’ll spend the whole day on your ass,” “don’t break your tailbone,” and I thought for sure I was going to hate it. I was actually more fearful of hating it cause I really wanted to like it. So, finally I get my butt on a board, take a class and realize I love it. Fear could have held me back my whole life and I would have missed finding something I really love.
Fear holds us back spiritually too. What could we be missing if we let the fear continue to control us? Maybe a chance to show obedience or a chance to find something we love?
When you are snowboarding you can’t look down. If you look down you fall down. Also, if you tense up and let fear over come you, you lose control and fall. I think this relates perfectly to faith. You have to keep your eyes up and have no fear. Otherwise, you fall down.
