Skrillex @ LA Live

I went and saw Skrillex on Sunday night with Scotty. I am still recovering. It was intense and crazy fun.
Skrillex is a DJ who blew up in the last few months. His remixes featuring a hardcore dubstep beat is crazy! I mean, seriously cray. It is not for the light hearted. Shit drops hard, for reals. He is nominated for a Grammy and rarely (very rarely) are DJ’s especially for dubstep music to be recognized by the Grammys. I mean, even Deadmau5 hasn’t been nominated and he is HUGE!
Anyway, Skrillex new album came out this month and I have been digging it soooo much. I checked to see when he will be in LA next and found out he was playing 4 nights in a row, THAT WEEKEND! This left me trippin and scrambling for tickets. I had to go! Thankfully, my faithful pal Scotty was down to roll too.
I almost got got by some raver girls in their early 20’s off craigslist.com too for some tickets! Ya. They are gonna have to wake up pretty damn early in the morning to pull $160 big ones away from this gal.
They tried to sell me bogus gift card tickets. They are this new way of buying tickets where you re-up on a gift card instead of getting hard tickets. This new ticket provider (flavor.us) was putting on the show instead of Ticketmaster/live nation. I was all for another ticket provider because Ticketmaster/live nation is a total monopoly. Luckily, this new provider allows you to check the status of the gift cards because these girls had absolutely nothing on the cards they were trying to sell me.
So, since all the shows were all sold out, Scotty and I turned to the good old reliable eBay to find tickets to the Sunday night show at LA Live (by the Staples Center). We were successful and good ol’ faithful eBay is the only way I am buying tickets from now on.
The show was actually in a HUGE tent, on top of a parking garage, in the middle of downtown LA. Also DJ-ing  was Dada Life (Swedish house music…pretty fun), Benga, and Nada Storm. They were fun. The stage turned 360° so you had a great view from the whole tent. Skrillex had these dancers /poll dancers that provided some fun entertainment. I learned a lot from my first electronic/dance/rave.

1.      Girls wear NO CLOTHES! LITERALLY. I saw a girl walking around with nothing on except booty shorts, thigh high fishnets, a panda hat, and pasties on her nipples. No lie. I took this picture to show you this one chick cause it blew my mind.
2.      I do however, understand the allure of wearing nothing cause you get soooo freaking hot dancing, jumping, and fist pumping for 2 hours straight. Wow. About an hour in Scotty was like, “Aren’t you needing water yet?” I was like, “No, my body is use to 13.1 miles. Keep going!” Haha! It takes serious endurance to last the whole show. Scotty did eventually go and buy us $7 waters. Yea. Robbery.
Sweaty post show...totally worth it

3.      The crowd is super polite. If you need to leave your friends to get water, they will totally let you back in and up front to your friends. That does NOT happen at rock shows.
4.      Don’t bring your lipgloss, pack of gum, eye drops or cigarettes. Anything opened like that , they make you throw away. I guess I could be stashing LSD in my eye drops? Ugh. I was mad.
5.      They also check under/around your bra FYI when you get searched upon entering.
6.      Don’t buy tickets off craigslist from raver girls in headbands.
7.      If you plan on being close to the stage (or in my opinion going to go at all), be ready to live, breathe, and die that shit because it is intense!
8.      Bring a hair rubber band for your ‘fro (if they let you in with it…they might consider it a weapon you never know) cause it gets HOT!
9.      Don’t plan anything the next day…especially having to wake up early. You will be beat.

Most people (like my mom and Sean too) might say Skrillex is just a bunch of noise and I admit it kind of does sound like you are trapped in some sort of video game that has glitched and you are about to hit reset. I can't explain it but I love it. I love it when the bass drops, I love the energy, I love the free dancing about, not a care in the world. I loved it.

This is a video of the end of the show. You can really get an idea of the crowd, dancers and music.

Me and Scotty dancing and enjoying Summit by Skrillex. I am soooo glad I got to hear this one!
