Kaelyns 2nd Birthday Party

I went to Merced this weekend to celebrate Kaelyns 2nd birthday with a luau themed party at my brother’s house.
I arrived late Friday night and my Mom and Dick were already asleep. Thanks to the new pills I’ve been taking, I was actually able to fall asleep! Plus, Grandma’s got some pretty comfy beds (Thank you Grandma!). I fell asleep before 1am and that was the quickest I’ve fallen asleep after a drive in the last year. The drug I’ve been taking to help me sleep is called Elavil (Amitripaline). I really like it and have found it to be very good drug. Drugs are great!
Anyhow, after a good sleep my mom, Dick and I went over to Andrew’s to start setting up decorations for the party. I walked in and expected Kaelyn to be shy at first but no, she ran over and screamed, “AMY HERE!!!” and gave me the biggest hug and snuggled into me. She says my name like, “Emie” it so cute. She helped me hang decorations and followed me around. Out of nowhere she said, “Emie home!” and smiled like she was completely content with the comment and the fact that I was “home”. I almost cried on the spot. She was so happy. I am so glad she remembered me. It was only a month ago I saw her in S.F. so her little brain totally remembered the fun we had up there. I was elated.
She had a great time at her party playing in the pool with her little friends and going down the big blow up slide with Andrew and Erika. At one point while we were setting up the power failed on the blow up slide and water started rushing out of the holding pool at the bottom of the slide. It was like a tsunami! In slow motion, I realized the problem and ran over. Luckily, we got the power figured out and the party wasn’t ruined because of it.

I really enjoyed having the family together. It was so nice to see my mom, dad, and both step-parents talking at the same table together. As any child of separated parents understands, this is not only an awesome but rare occurrence to have all of them together. I am so thankful to have two parents that although they are no longer married can still come together, talk, and enjoy each other’s company. I am glad I snapped a quick picture of it too:

It’s really ironic but all of the girls Erika invited to the party were girls that I know from Junior High. We were all in color guard together and although we ran in different crews, we remember each other. One of the girls, Erika’s cousin Soledad was real friendly and we talked about what we are doing in our lives. I think she is the only chick there that didn’t have a little one too so we related on that level.

I met up with Becka and we went to Oryleighs Tavern (aka Maloneys) around 11 that night. Yup, Amy and Becka, back out on the streets of Merced. Haha! We had fun. Becka is still crazy as ever but no matter how much time goes by or what happens, we have an undeniable friendship. I hope to get her down here to hang with me for a weekend or a few days. We even talked about a road trip in the future. Merced downtown is the same old pathetic situation, just younger kids making me feel older than ever! I did run into a few baseball buddies and some homies I knew in college. Everyone asks where the heck I’ve been? Huntington Beach I say, and they all ohhh and awhhh and ask what I do. It makes me feel pretty awesome and really smart. Even though I am so glad I left, it does feel nice to run into people from time to time and no matter how hard I try, it definitely is my hometown.
I need to make a serious effort to get back to merced or see that Kaelyn atleast every two months. She is growing so fast! It means so much to me to be a part of her life, her memories, and capture her beauty and personality in photographs. I am rusty with my camera and I can tell. I need to continue to practice on a weekly basis. But, no matter what you can’t mess up pictures of that little girl. I love my Kae.
