Most of the time when I go to bed, I grab one of the pups and cuddle with them for awhile until I fall asleep or one of us gets bored and wants to lay by ourselves. Pnut is the best bed sleeper. You wouldn’t even notice he is there. He has been sleeping in my bed since he was 3 months old (the first night I had him). Daisy was kenneled at night when she was a pup because she destroyed things in the night. Now, that she is a good pup, she usually sleeps in the dog bed because she is a terrible sleeper. She sleeps horizontal and leaves me no room! In Merced I had a huge 4 post queen size bed so if I kicked one or both of them out onto their dog bed in the middle of the night they couldn’t get back up, but now that I am on a smaller, shorter bed, it is easy for them to creep back under the covers.
Recently, I have noticed Daisy has mastered the art of creeping into my bed and under the sheets without waking me up. In the beginning she was really bad at it and would bolt under the covers so fast it would wake me up and I would kick her back out again and make her sleep in her bed. Well, this weekend I caught her creepin in and her tactic was impressive. Very, very slowly she climbed up onto my bed and then sat and stared at me for awhile. My back was to her so I could feel and hear what she was doing but she couldn’t see my face or eyes to see if they were open (I was pretending to sleep so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway). One little paw at a time she stepped closer and closer and then paused for awhile before crawling into the little space in the covers that had formed between my back and the fold of the comforter. She pushed the blanket, paused, put her head under, paused, pushed the blanket, and paused, until she was all the way under the covers. I turned and lifted the blanket to catch her and she turned and looked like a deer in the headlights, knowing she had been caught. That little creeper has mastered sneaking into my bed without waking me! I know your tricks Daisy, you are a quick learner. Now, if only she learned so fast when it comes to barking at random dogs and children on the street I would be really impressed.
