The best night of my life!

Last night was the icing on my little cake. The little cake called “My life in Southern California” that I created for myself, and the icing being that I got to meet and hang out with a band that I totally dig right now. I remember being back home and day dreaming about going to concerts and seeing some of my favorite bands live. The closest decent venue back home as about 2+ hours from my house and bands rarely stop in northern/central California. One of the reasons I decided to move to Southern California was the vast array of amazing venues that bands frequently play. I never envisioned an evening quite like the one I had last night, but it wasn’t far from my dreams.
First, I would like to say that going to a concert by yourself is an experience in itself. I talked to a couple people and since there was only like 30-40 people there it was a quaint and comfy atmosphere.
I wanted to check out the other bands and it turned out to be 2 acoustic sets before Dear and the Headlights. I wasn’t that thrilled with the sets, but Dear and the Headlights were awesome! One thing that kind of sucked was that the place was so dead it was hard to really get into it like I wanted too. For the most part I didn’t care, but later when talking to the lead singer, he confirmed the fact that smaller crowds kind of suck, not only for the band but the fans as well. They didn’t play one of my favorite songs due to guitar problems but I was still completely satisfied. It’s so nice to see the songs you love played live. There’s really nothing like it.
After their set, I watched some of Chuck Regan and then wandered outside to check out the merch table and make sure they had the shirt still set aside for me (I need to go to my car and get cash after the show). I literally almost walked into the lead singer of Dear and the Headlights, Ian. So, you know me, I just walked right up to him and started talking. Trying not to sound like a completely crazy fan, we talked about a whole bunch of stuff before heading to the merch table for my shirt. Anyhow, long story short, we walked to my car to get my cd sleeve for him to sign and got to talk for awhile. He then took it to have the band sign and came back and told me they were in the van. So, much to my excitement, we head over to the van and I got my cd sleeve signed and hung out for awhile. Yes, I hung out with the band in their van! I know! They had to go load the rest of their equipment so I decided to head out. I got a hug from Ian and PJ, wished them well, thanked them for letting me chill, and floated away, my feet about 5 inches off the ground.
At this point, I feel like I have accomplished tenfold what I dreamed and hoped to accomplish after moving down here. They might just be a small band from Arizona that is just starting out, (yea, Ian grew up in Chandler to be exact! Totally small world, right?) but to me, they are small heroes that play on the strings of my heart with their music. You can hear some of their music Here. You won’t be disappointed. They are a really great group of guys and deserve the best. I wish them well and many years of continued success. As for me, I’ll be a fan till’ the end.
