Domesticated and cooking? What have you done with the real Amy?

This weekend was dedicated to cooking. For the past 2 years I have tried and tried to learn how to cook. It was one of the things I thought I needed to do to be more domesticated but it never really happened. I had my occasional meals I knew how to cook, and I would make a few dinners a week and eat leftovers for the rest. I had it down pretty good back home. La Nita’s flautas were only $5.95, El Pollo loco BRC’s and quesadillas were only $1, El Asadero was a splurge for a $5.99 two taco rice and beans meal. Toss in a few Subway sandwiches for $3.99 and a fast food restaurant or two and you got yourself a full few weeks of meals for under $20 bucks. Those weeks are long gone. I might still do cereal, breakfast for dinner, or the occasional, PBJ, but I learned this weekend that I really can whip some things together if I really try. I think the key to my new found hobby is having someone else to do it with and to cook for. Who wants to dirty all those damn dishes when you could be just fine making a PBJ? Toss another hungry adult in the mix and a budget and you are forced to learn to cook! Haha. So here is how it went:
Friday night we made a mushroom rigatoni pasta and sauce, I can’t remember what we had on the side.
Saturday we went grociery shopping and stocked up. So for lunch/dinner on Saturday I made AMAZING French Roll roast beef sandwiches, complete with Au Ju and swiss cheese. I never thought I knew how to make corn on the cob but I guess I can, so I made some of that too. We even whipped up some margaritas and had a good buzz by 6pm. By 8pm we crashed out asleep and slept until midnight… musta been that beef bullion.

Sunday Morning we made our first omelet! We had to look up directions online but we did it! We added some avocado, bacon, cheese and salsa! It was sooooo good. I had my first omelet a few weeks ago and I am totally addicted. Its much easier just ordering it, but it was really fun getting to make our own.

Sunday evening, sloppy Joe’s…you can’t go wrong there.

Mouth full and messy with sloppy joes! Yummmm

And Sunday night for dessert…PIZOOKIE! If you don’t know what pizookie is, wikipedia that crap. You haven’t lived until you’ve had it and the best part is it is super easy to make and it tastes just as good as the restaurant BJ’s that invented it.
So, that was my cooking adventure weekend. I am so inspired to cook more stuff with my sweetheart. I have a slow cooker my dad got me that I can’t wait to try, and some other really cool ideas and recipes, its really fun. The best part is…it was all really good! Everything came out awesome. I know it wasn’t the hardest meals ever to cook, but it really broke my, “I can’t cook, I’m not even going to try” mentality.
I am officially domesticated.
Haha. Yea right.

better be careful with that cooking crap - I hear people can get hurt doing that!!! LOL. Or, worse yet, people will start sending you recipes to help further your domestication - be very very careful of those wascally wabbits!! ;)
