We are going through a lot of changes at work. Good change but it comes with a lot of growing pains.
We have been working closely with a logistics software company that is developing their program to suit our needs. Currently, our prediction and scheduling software is me, an excel sheet, and a good ol’ notebook with my calculations and notes. I’m pretty sure that fun fact was recently relayed to upper management much to their surprise and chagrin. 4 million gallons a month and it is all coordinated by me and Peila and our trusty excel sheets.
Now, we are moving in a much more sophisticated direction. We will be managing multiple trucking companies, contract rates, rated lanes of transport, and we will be able to tender scheduled deliveries, and track and invoice out of our new system. It is going to be awesome.
Pretty much everything I do on a daily basis is going to change. It is no longer going to be driven by my slow, basic way of getting my tasks done. It is going to be in a much more sophisticated system. The system is currently used by some major shippers of the world. It is going to provide room for the projected growth they forecast.
My day is now full of conference calls, meetings, and Go To Meetings with hands on software training. We are hanging in there but it doesn’t help that alongside all of the changes, our trucking company has pulled some low blows and made some cuts to the way we are used to doing things. These changes have forced us to bring in extra help and have really changed the game on our flow of paperwork and stress.
I’m pretty sure my boss would’ve lost it by now if she didn’t have me to keep her sane. Our humor and laughter is the critical to our moral. It’s really easy to feel completely overwhelmed and drowning. Lunches to Chipotle and then Yogurtland after helps too. J heehee.
It feels pretty good to be a part of these changes and growth spurts though. I’ve managed to keep in mind the big picture and this is the time to rise and shine and work our tail off for the end of the year bonuses right around the corner. Buckin up and rising to the occasion.
Cheers to a growing company!
