Lykke Li at the El Rey

Scotty and I went and saw the Lykke Li in a sold out show at the El Rey on 3/9/11. It was my first time seeing her live. I was surprised by the amount of smoke from the smoke machine and her dramatic entrance which included some sort of cape. I guess she is a lot more "indie pop" then I realized.

Lykke singing at the show. Sadly, I can't take credit for the pics I got them off LA Weekly's site but I thought they captured the show well and Lykke's passion while she sings.

It was so fun to dance to her beats and fun lyrics. The band was spectacular. I think there was 5 of them (?) and they sounded amazing...just like the albums.
I had a moment when she was singing Love and Lust that totally reminded me of Kaelyn. The lyric goes, "Come baby....so lets dance while we're waiting" and "Dance while you can, Dance cause you must, love out of lust, so dance while you can!" That is totally Kaelyn's spirit. She loves to dance around in her room and sing and play the piano. It is just natural to her. As I danced along to the rhythmics of the live drum beat, I carried her in my heart. I hope when she grows up she will continue to have a love for live music and dancing, and maybe one day that she will be enjoying a live concert (maybe even here in LA) and dancing and feeling free like I felt in that moment.
It amazes me how no two concerts are the same and no matter how different they are, I love them for each and every single difference. Mashing out in a mosh pit to some insanely loud double bass, and screaming sweaty people mashing with you....Yes please! Doing a jig to a banjo and boys wearing flannel and singing about the love of God and their country...Yes please! Swinging my hips along with a super rad indie pop princess singing about 'being your prostitute' (no lie thats a lyric)...I'm down with that too!
Next up is my first real Rap show! Oh yea baby Kid Cudi! I'll add, 'contact high from so much green smoke, and rapping every lyric along with a lot of stoned wannabe rappers to my list.' haha!
Until the next show!
