Labor Day Weekend in Cayucos

Our View

I crashed my mom and Dick’s Labor Day weekend plans in Cayucos. Every year my mom talks about how much fun it is hanging with friends at beach houses for the weekend and finally this year I asked if I could tag along.
I have not had the chance to drive up the central coast and thought it would be fun road trip adventure. Frances watched my pups, and I took off early Saturday morning around 6:30am from HB and arrived in Cayucos at 10:30am. It was a great drive. I haven’t been through Santa Barbara in years so it was nice to revisit even if I was just passing through. There was a pretty heavy marine layer all morning so I didn’t get to see too many sites but I got the gist.
After arriving safe and sound, I took a quick nap before visiting the neighboring beach house where everyone met up for lunch. The marine layer had burned off and the sun stayed out all day. I had fun chatting with the folks and taking pictures of the volleyball game and other festivities. “Doctor Feel Good” started pouring the mai tai’s and we enjoyed the yard and a game of croquet.

That night we surprised Vasi with a 50th birthday party at the beach house we were staying. We weren’t able to have a party for her in July because her father passed away so it was nice to be able to be at the party. She has never been surprised, and we definitely surprised her.

Surprise!!

Too surprised!

HUH??

There is a lot going on here...but I can't explain it.

The next day I wasn’t feeling very good. I had been battling a sore throat and I was feeling really drained. My mom and I walked to a little fair going on near the main street of Cayucos. The town reminds me of a Sonora or Jamestown but near the beach. It’s really, really small. I bought a cute wooden bracelet that I love for $3!
The rest of the day was very relaxing. I sat on a beach chair on the grass in the backyard and read my book for awhile and my mom did some boogie boarding. I would've
loved to join in but I really didn’t feel up to it.

Boogie Board Time!

Listening to the waves crash, feeling the sun on my skin, and reading a book is the best feeling ever!

It amazes me that the core group of Dick’s friends has made it a priority to spend Labor Day weekend together in Cayucos for 38 years! What a rad crew. It really puts into perspective how important it is to make time to cherish and nurture relationships with friends and family. I would much rather save every penny to spend a weekend on the beach with my hommies and family then spend it on a nice ride or name brand clothes. I wish more people made the same priorities. It really is what matters most in life. Planning the next time you can raise your glass to cheers with your closest family and friends should be the ultimate goal.

We even had a bonfire on the beach Sunday night. The sky was clear, the Milky Way was bright in the sky, venus was the first” star” you could see. I love stars. We sang camp songs like, “The Cat Came Back,” and “Titanic Sank” and toasted a shot of buttery nipples that we sipped to warm up. Later that night I heard the boys broke out the awesome aged tequila. I was jealous, but needed to get some sleep.

Tequila!

The ride home I hit a good bit of traffic in Santa Barbara but made it home by 4pm to spend some time with my love muffins.
I was invited back anytime, and I miiiight just take them up on it. Beautiful weekend indeed.
Cheers! Till next time!
