Modest Mouse

I finally got to see Modest Mouse in concert. I’ve been waiting since 2006 (when I played them on my modern rock college radio station at Stanislaus) to see them and the night finally came! They took the stage really late (about 10:15ish) and the crowd was already buzzin and ready to dance and sing to some of their fun songs. It started really strong and then they got kinda mellow which was a bummer cause we all wanted the fun party songs. I went with my homeboy Randy which was great cause I adore him and I haven’t seen him for awhile. He is a fan of theirs too so we had a rockin good time. During the song Dashboard two guys started moshing and I jumped in it. We got pushed up a lot closer so that was great. I read on twitter.com someone said, “Wow, I didn’t expect moshing at a Modest Mouse concert” and I was like hell yea, that was me! Haha. LOL. I wanted to hear 5 songs and I didn’t hear any of them, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear a few others I didn’t expect. Parting of the sensory was by far the best song and one thing is for sure, they are fantastic musicians (if you listen to it below you gotta listen to the whole song to really appreciate it). I mean, what other band do you get to see someone play the violin, stand up bass, accordion, banjo, cornet, guitars, drums and some other instruments I’m not even sure what they were? I hate to admit this but there were a few times I realized I never even heard some of the instruments until they played it live and I saw them play it and it clicked, like yea, there is a rad violin background in that song. It opened my eyes to a lot in their music. These guys have been playing since 1993 so they are definitely seasoned. I will see them again, if not every time they are in town.
Now, I am kind of melancholy and my heart hurts a bit cause I want to see them again and hear more, but I gotta wait. That’s pretty common for me to feel after a show with a band that I adore. It does feel really good though because I can check that off my list to do’s in Amy’s new life, and those little accomplishments feel so good and keep me going.
Here are pictures I found of the show:

Set list (missing Parting of the Sensory dang it)

The lighting at this show was one of the best I've ever seen. I was blown away about how beautiful the lights were. At one point they looked like a bunch of fireflies and I almost tripped out and thought we were outside in the woods.

Isn't that a cornet?

“You were so true to yourself.
You were true to no one else.
Well I should put you in the ground.”

“I've got the time, I got the hours,
I got the days, I got the weeks.
I could say to myself
I've got the words but I can't speak.”

“Saying "See it wasn't quite as bad as"
Well, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know.”

“All this talking pony
Still monkeys the whole time
We could not help from flinging shit
In our modern suits and ties”

“I would grab my shoes and then away I'd walk”

“Someday you will die and
Someone's or something's will steal your carbon”
